Description
This is a Teaninich single malt, drawn and bottled by The Caskhound matured to 10 year old from 2015, drawn from cask 700019 + 7000191 and bottled at 50.3%. A release of 282 bottles. Teaninich, a large Highland distillery beside the River Averon at Alness, was founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro. The mash filter gives an ultra clear wort, the source of its fragrant, green tea grassiness.
Mashed through a mash filter for an ultra clear wort and distilled in fat copper stills, giving the fresh, green spirit at its heart. A sherry butt held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. Still young, the malt is grassy and oily with a citrus lift. Years in oak round the spirit, the grass and wax deepening with age. The Munro family ran the distillery through two generations before selling. The Cromarty Firth nearby is one of few UK waters home to bottlenose dolphins.
Undiluted at 50.3%, it is layered. The Amontillado adds a dry, nutty, almond edge, and the refill oak lending honey and vanilla, with cut grass, green tea and a soft citrus. Beneath it run cut grass, citrus and a soft wax. The close is fresh, grass over gentle oak. This is a rare single malt from a blending giant.
