Young, funky Jamaica at navy strength, all glue and varnish, banana, pineapple and citrus over dry wood and herbs, a Worthy Park single distillery pot still rum bottled unsweetened at a sharp 57.18%.
Description
Transcontinental Rum Line is the rum label of French house La Maison du Whisky, and this is a Worthy Park bottling distilled in 2012, drawn from one of Jamaica's most precise pot still distilleries. Worthy Park works entirely on a Forsyths double retort pot still using its own molasses, and its esters come from fermentation rather than muck, giving cleaner, more structured funk than the heaviest Trelawny houses. Bottled unsweetened at navy strength, this is a pure single Jamaican rum in spirit.
At around five and a half years the profile is bright and youthful, with glue and varnish announcing the esters, then banana, pineapple and citrus, herbs and a wisp of smoke over dry, slightly sharp wood. At 57.18% it is hot and concentrated, raw in the way young cask strength Jamaica tends to be, with the fruit and spice carrying real intensity. This is a value pick for drinkers who enjoy young, funky Jamaican rum and want strength and character over polish, rewarding either neat or in a bold cocktail.
