Description
An official Tamdhu single malt and bottled at 60.8%. Only 1000 bottles were released. Tamdhu was first built in 1897 by a blending consortium on the banks of the Spey in Speyside, and it has been the sherried face of Speyside since its revival. Mothballed in 2010, the distillery was revived by Ian Macleod, who relaunched the single malt in 2013.
Distilled in copper onion stills on Tamdhu Spring water, for a rich Speyside spirit built to take sherry wood. Maturation in Oloroso sherry laid fig and raisin over the spirit. Without an age statement, the malt is rich, fruity and sherried. A patient maturation suits the rich, sherried Tamdhu character. Sherry casks, both Spanish and American oak, define the modern Tamdhu. The name Tamdhu is Gaelic for little dark hill, and the architect was Charles Doig. The River Spey runs past the distillery on its way to the Moray coast. Ian Macleod runs Tamdhu alongside Glengoyne and Rosebank.
At its natural 60.8% it is concentrated. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth. A dried fruit and a nutty oak give it real depth. A long, sherried finish carries a nutty depth. This is a dried fruit rich Speyside malt.
