Description
From Alistair Walker Whisky Company comes this Tamdhu, a 10 year old from 2013, drawn from cask 800069 and bottled at 57.9%. A release of 698 bottles. Tamdhu was established in 1897 on the banks of the Spey in Speyside; its rich, sherried malt has a devoted following. Water comes from the Tamdhu Spring, the distillery set on the banks of the Spey.
Distilled in copper onion stills on Tamdhu Spring water, for a rich Speyside spirit built to take sherry wood. Sherry seasoned oak gave the dried fruit richness Tamdhu is known for. Still young, the malt is fruity and sherried with a soft spice. Years in oak round the spirit, the dried fruit and spice deepening with age. The name Tamdhu is Gaelic for little dark hill, and the architect was Charles Doig. The River Spey runs past the distillery on its way to the Moray coast. Ian Macleod runs Tamdhu alongside Glengoyne and Rosebank. Water is drawn from the Tamdhu Spring on the Speyside site.
At 57.9%, undiluted, it is deep and sherried. The Pedro Ximenez lends raisin, date and treacle over the malt. A baked apple and a warm ginger lift it. The close is warm, dried fruit over soft oak. This is a sherry matured Speyside single malt.
