Description
An official Talisker single malt, a 7 year old from 2012, drawn from cask 703019 and bottled at 60.1%. Talisker, built in 1831 at Carbost at Carbost on Skye's wild west coast, is a Diageo Classic Malt. Talisker is made by the sea, its character drawn from the wild Skye coast.
Distilled in tall stills with U shaped lyne arms and condensed in worm tubs, from peated Glen Ord malt, building the smoky, briny Skye character. A Port cask laid smoked red fruit over the peat. At this age the smoke is vigorous and the pepper sharp over a briny spirit. A patient maturation suits the bold, maritime Talisker character. Talisker was for nearly two centuries the only working distillery on the Isle of Skye. Its 10 year old is the Island malt of Diageo's Classic Malts selection. The unusual two wash and three spirit still set up is a relic of triple distillation, dropped in 1928.
At a full 60.1% it is concentrated and oily. The wine cask lends smoked red berry and spice, and a smoky, briny depth with a chilli catch sit over a vanilla from the refill oak beneath. It is rich and smoky, the brine and oak well matched. The finish is deep, oily and peppery. This is the wild maritime malt of Skye.
