Description
An official Talisker single malt, a 15 year old Skye malt and bottled at 57.3%. Only 42222 bottles were released. Talisker was established in 1830 at Carbost on Skye's wild west coast; its peppery maritime malt is loved the world over. Talisker is made by the sea, its character drawn from the wild Skye coast.
Distilled in tall stills with U shaped lyne arms and condensed in worm tubs, from peated Glen Ord malt, building the smoky, briny Skye character. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the peppery character to the fore. Past a decade the smoke mellows, the pepper settling over an oily, maritime spirit. A patient maturation suits the bold, maritime Talisker character. Founded by the MacAskill brothers in 1830, it is Skye's oldest distillery. The worm tubs build the full, oily body that carries the smoke and pepper. For most of its life Talisker stood alone on Skye, until Torabhaig opened in 2017.
At cask strength 57.3% it is muscular. A smoky, briny depth with a chilli catch sit over a vanilla from the refill oak beneath. It is rich and smoky, the brine and oak well matched. Pepper and sea salt see out a long finish. This is the wild maritime malt of Skye.
