Description
From Douglas Laing comes this Talisker, a 10 year old release from 2010, drawn from cask DL 14979 and bottled at 48.4%. Only 383 bottles were released. Talisker, founded in 1830 by the MacAskill brothers on the shore of Loch Harport on the Isle of Skye, is a Diageo Classic Malt. For nearly two centuries it was the only working distillery on Skye, until Torabhaig opened in 2017.
It was worked through the distillery's looped stills and worm tubs, from medium peated malt, for the peppery, maritime spirit Talisker is known for. A refill American oak cask held it, keeping the peppery character to the fore. At this age the smoke is vigorous and the pepper sharp over a briny spirit. Refill oak lets the distillery's peppery, briny character lead. Founded by the MacAskill brothers in 1830, it is Skye's oldest distillery. The worm tubs build the full, oily body that carries the smoke and pepper.
At a natural 48.4% it is powerful and oily. Sea spray, smoke and cracked pepper, with a quiet vanilla from the barrel. Soft smoke and brine sit behind the cask sweetness. It finishes smoky, salty and warming. This is the peppery maritime malt of Skye.
