Description
Gordon & MacPhail bottled this Strathisla single malt, aged 35 year old from 1985, drawn from cask 1482 and bottled at 57.8%. Only 104 bottles were released. Strathisla was founded in 1786 in the Speyside town of Keith, and it has distilled without a break for well over two centuries. The single malt is prized for its honeyed, fruity Speyside character.
Distilled in short copper pot stills on Broomhill Spring water, giving the honeyed, full bodied spirit at its heart. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the fruit lead. Long ageing brings a deep dried fruit character and a mellow, polished oak. A patient maturation suits the rich, fruity Strathisla character. The distillery stands among gardens by the rushing River Isla. The malt is the fruity heart of the Chivas Regal blend, owned by Chivas Brothers since 1950. Water comes from the Broomhill Spring, the distillery set on the River Isla at Keith.
Bottled at a cask strength 57.8%, it is concentrated. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under honey, apple and a soft spice. It is rich and deep, the fruit and oak well matched. A long, honeyed finish carries an almond note. This is an honeyed, fruity Speyside single malt.
