Description
This is a Strathisla single malt, chosen and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail, a 34 year old release from 1955 and bottled at 40%. First licensed in 1786 by the Isla in Keith, Banffshire, Strathisla is the oldest working distillery in the Highlands. It is the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Scottish Highlands.
Distilled on soft Isla valley water in traditional pot stills, building the classic Strathisla style. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the fruit lead. At this age it is rich and rounded, the fruit folded into a honeyed, waxy body. The unpeated make lets the wood and the fruit speak without smoke. Strathisla is the oldest continuously working distillery in the Scottish Highlands, founded in 1786. The distillery stands among gardens by the rushing River Isla. The malt is the fruity heart of the Chivas Regal blend, owned by Chivas Brothers since 1950. Water comes from the Broomhill Spring, the distillery set on the River Isla at Keith.
At 40% it is supple and honeyed. A rich, fruity sweetness meet honeyed oak sweetness underneath. Beneath it run honey, pear and a soft spice. It finishes clean, fruity and rich. This is the fruity Speyside heart of Chivas Regal.
