This Strathisla was from the independent bottler Cadenhead's, aged 23 year old from 1989 and bottled at 48.5%. The outturn was 222 bottles. First licensed in 1786 by the Isla in Keith, Banffshire, Strathisla is the oldest working distillery in the Highlands. Its twin pagodas and water wheel make it one of the prettiest distilleries in Scotland.

Distilled on soft Isla valley water in traditional pot stills, building the classic Strathisla style. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Mid age brings a deeper honey and a riper orchard fruit. Sherry wood suits the rich make, lending dried fruit and a nutty depth. Strathisla is the oldest continuously working distillery in the Scottish Highlands, founded in 1786. The distillery stands among gardens by the rushing River Isla. The malt is the fruity heart of the Chivas Regal blend, owned by Chivas Brothers since 1950.

At a hearty 48.5% it carries real weight. Ripe orchard fruit and a gentle ginger sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. It is rounded and full, the fruity spirit shining through. It finishes clean, fruity and rich. This is the malt of Scotland's oldest working Highland distillery.
