Gordon & MacPhail bottled this Strathisla single malt, an 18 year old release from 2006, drawn from cask 219484 and bottled at 60.7%. Only 358 bottles were released. Strathisla was built in 1786 on the River Isla in Keith, in the heart of Speyside; it is the oldest continuously working distillery in the Highlands. The single malt is prized for its honeyed, fruity Speyside character.

It was drawn off the distillery's short copper stills, for a fruity, honeyed spirit with real weight. Ex-Sherry wood suited the full make, adding a dried fruit richness. Around two decades the malt gains a fuller honey and a dried fruit weight. Long, gentle maturation turns the orchard fruit towards honey and almond. Dunnage warehouses on site give a slow, humid maturation by the river. The make leans rich and fruity, fuller than the lighter Speyside style.

At cask strength 60.7% it is full bodied. The Oloroso gives dried fruit and a warm nuttiness, and a gentle vanilla and cream from the wood runs under honey, apple and a soft spice. It is rich and deep, the fruit and oak well matched. Dried fruit and honey see out a long finish. This is an honeyed, fruity Speyside single malt.
