Description
This official Speyside Distillery single malt, a 10 year old and bottled at 43%. Set at Tromie Mills, the most southerly Speyside distillery, the Speyside Distillery was built by hand on a former barley mill site. The first single malt, Drumguish, appeared in 1993, three years after the first spirit ran.
Distilled on River Tromie water in a tiny pair of pot stills, building the gentle Speyside style it is loved for. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. Around ten to fifteen years the malt gains a fuller honey over the fruit. The short stills give body, which slow running and a clean cut keep light. The SPEY range and the dark Beinn Dubh are bottled by Harvey's of Edinburgh. Short stills and slow, hands on distillation coax a light, fruity spirit. The site was a working barley mill from the 1700s until 1965. A long fermentation builds the fruity esters that mark the house style.
Bottled at 43%, it is rounded. Green apple and a gentle spice sit alongside soft vanilla and honey from the cask. It is fresh and clean, the fruity spirit shining through. The close is soft, fruit over gentle oak. This is the SPEY single malt from near Kingussie.
