Description
An official Speyburn single malt and bottled at 40%. Speyburn was established in 1897 in the Glen of Rothes on Speyside; it remains one of Speyside's prettiest distilleries. The name joins the river Spey with the Scots word burn, for a Speyside stream.
Distilled in classic Speyside onion stills and condensed in traditional worm tubs, giving the fragrant, rounded spirit at its heart. Ex-Sherry wood suited the make, adding a dried fruit richness. No age is given, but the honeyed fruit marks it as classic Speyburn. A patient maturation suits the clean, fruity Speyburn character. Inver House runs Speyburn alongside Old Pulteney, Balblair and anCnoc. The name joins the Spey with the Scots word burn, for a Speyside stream. A long fermentation builds the fruity esters that mark the house style. One of the best selling malts abroad, it stays quietly under appreciated at home.
At 40% it is smooth and fruity. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth, and the refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under honey, apple and a soft spice. It is fragrant and deep, the fruit and oak well matched. Honey and orchard fruit see out a long finish. This is a honeyed Speyside single malt of real charm.
