Description
Douglas Laing bottled this Speyburn single malt, a 15 year old release from 2003, drawn from cask DL 12389 and bottled at 48.4%. 374 bottles in all. Speyburn was first built in 1897 in the Glen of Rothes on Speyside, and it has made its fruity Speyside malt for over a century. Traditional worm tub condensers are still used, giving a rounded, fragrant make.
Distilled in classic Speyside onion stills and condensed in traditional worm tubs, giving the fragrant, rounded spirit at its heart. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the fruit lead. Mid age brings a deeper honey and a riper dried fruit note. A patient maturation suits the clean, fruity Speyburn character. It was the first Scottish distillery fitted with drum maltings, still preserved on site. Worm tub condensers are still used, lending the make a rounded, fragrant weight. The first spirit ran in a December snowstorm in 1897, to date the fillings to the Diamond Jubilee.
At a natural 48.4% it is full and fruity. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a clean, honeyed fruitiness. The mouthfeel is rounded, the fruit carried on a honeyed body. The finish is rounded, honeyed and soft. This is a fruity Speysider from Rothes.
