A cask strength Enmore from Italian house Silver Seal, nineteen years old and dark, with plum, vanilla and wood over a leathery, oaky palate with a natural sweetness and a prune and anise lifted character at 57.4%.
Description
Silver Seal, the Modena bottler respected by collectors for its closed distillery casks, bottled this 1988 Enmore at full strength. Enmore is home to the world's last operating wooden Coffey still, lighter than the wooden pot marques but still woody, and at nineteen years this expression has darkened into a rich, mature spirit. It is offered unsweetened at cask strength.
Distilled from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it noses on plum, vanilla, wood and leather, with prunes and anise emerging on a beautiful dark spirit, then carries oak, leather, plum and a natural sweetness onto the palate. The sweetness here reads as the work of long oak ageing rather than dosage, giving an old Guyanese richness. At 57.4% it has weight and depth to spare, a dark, leathery, plummy Enmore that shows the heavier side an aged wooden Coffey rum can reach. A characterful cask strength expression from a name collectors trust.
