A Clarendon single cask finished in calvados wood, bottled by Sansibar, where green apple, pear and menthol meet the estery Jamaican core, dry and herbal at a punchy 58% with no sugar added.
Description
This Sansibar bottling takes a fourteen year old Clarendon pot still rum and gives it an unusual calvados cask, a finish that pushes orchard fruit right to the front of an otherwise funky Jamaican. Distilled in 2007 from molasses and held as a single cask at 58%, it is unsweetened and full of character, a left field option for drinkers who know the Clarendon profile and want a twist on it.
The calvados influence shows immediately as crisp green apple and pear, woven through the distillery's tropical esters and a clear streak of menthol. The palate stays in that apple and pear register with a herbal edge, finishing dry and woody. It keeps the weight and intensity of a high strength Jamaican while pointing the fruit somewhere unexpected, rewarding a drinker who gives it air and patience.
