Rum Nation Meticho Chocolate & Toffee

Meticho Chocolate and Toffee is a flavoured rum in the Rum Nation range, built on a Caribbean base and bottled at 40%. Rum Nation is well regarded for its aged regional bottlings, but this is squarely a sweet, flavoured release rather than one of its drier lines, and it asks to be judged on those terms.

The profile is rich and confectionery from the start. Toffee, caramel, milk chocolate and creme brulee lead the nose, the palate brings milk chocolate, cream toffee, dried figs and a syrupy texture, and the finish turns to burnt sugar and candied notes. This is a very sweet rum, close to a liqueur in character, so honesty matters, it is a dessert in a glass rather than a dry sipper. For anyone with a sweet tooth it delivers exactly what the name promises, best enjoyed in small measures as an indulgent after dinner treat or over ice.
