Slia Mare from Rum and Co GmbH is a flavoured rum blend that puts banana and vanilla front and centre, bottled soft at 40%. It makes no pretence at being a serious aged rum; this is a sweet, easygoing spirit aimed at casual mixing and party drinking.

The nose is dominated by banana with a clearly synthetic, sweet edge, and the palate follows the same path, banana and vanilla over a sugary base that turns a little artificial on the woody finish. There is real sweetness here and an unmistakable confected quality, so it is best understood as a flavoured mixer rather than something to drink neat. In a simple banana-leaning long drink it does the job it was built for. Drinkers after honest, dry rum character will want to look elsewhere, but as an undemanding sweet pour it is straightforward and unfussy.
