Vatted single malt at 40% aged 30 years, marketed by Isle of Arran Distillers under the Royal Island brand within the Finest Old Scotch Whisky series for the Japanese market. From the Royal Island brand line, an Isle of Arran Distillers secondary brand identity used for older vatted single malt expressions sourced from outside the distillery’s own production, given the 30 year age statement predates the 1995 founding of Lochranza distillery.

Royal Island is one of the secondary brand identities Isle of Arran Distillers has marketed alongside the main Arran single malt range. The 30 year age statement on this release is significant given Lochranza distillery only began production in 1995, meaning the contents draw on sourced single malt spirit from other Scottish distilleries vatted under the Royal Island brand. This kind of commercial arrangement is common for Scotch bottlers and brand owners who use vatted malt sources to create older age statements than their own production would allow.
The Royal Island 30 Years Old is presented as a blended malt, drawing on sourced single malt aged thirty years from undisclosed Scottish distilleries. Matured in ex Bourbon casks and bottled at 40% for the Japanese market. The Japanese specialist whisky retail trade has historically been a significant market for older Scotch single malt expressions including blended malt formats.
At 40% bottling strength the spirit has been chill filtered to maintain visual clarity, with the long maturation producing the deep cask integration typical of thirty year aged Scotch single malt. The flavour profile of chocolate, dried fruit, honey, nutty, old wood and sherried indicates significant sherry cask involvement in the source spirit, with the integrated profile characteristic of long aged blended malt drawing on mixed cask sources.
