Description
A distillery bottling of Royal Brackla matured to 22 year old, drawn from cask 500000 - 500004 and bottled at 53%. A release of 420 bottles. Royal Brackla was founded in 1812 on the Cawdor Estate of Macbeth fame; its whisky won the first royal warrant ever given to a Scotch, from William IV. It is one of only three distilleries to carry the Royal name in Scotch.
It was distilled twice on soft Cawdor Burn water, for a clean, floral spirit with a gentle spice. A sherry cask shaped it, true to the Royal Brackla house style. Long ageing brings a deep, dried fruit character and a mellow oak spice. The cool Highland climate gives a slow, even maturation over many years. Sherry and wine casks suit the elegant spirit, adding fruit and depth. The distillery was rebuilt and expanded across its long working life.
At a hearty 53% it carries real weight. The Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth, and a gentle vanilla and coconut from the wood, with orchard fruit and a gentle spice. The mouthfeel is round, the fruit carried on a honeyed body. Dried fruit and oak spice see out a long finish. This is a polished, fruity Highland whisky.
