Description
From Lady of the Glen comes this Royal Brackla matured to 15 year old from 2008, drawn from cask 6787 and bottled at 54.9%. The outturn was 232 bottles. Founded in 1812 on the Earl of Cawdor's estate near Nairn, Royal Brackla is the King's Own Whisky. The house style leans on sherry wood, fruity and elegant.
The spirit was made in copper pot stills after a long fermentation, for a fruity, honeyed make of real finesse. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak that lets the fruit lead. Around twelve to sixteen years the malt gains a sherried depth over the fruit. Sherry wood is central to the house style, lending dried fruit and a nutty depth. A long, cool maturation rounds the fruit into honey and dried fruit. Brackla earned the prefix Royal long before most distilleries had a brand at all. The malt is prized by blenders for its fragrant, fruity lift. Sherry and wine casks suit the elegant spirit, adding fruit and depth.
At its natural 54.9% it is concentrated. Vanilla and a light cream from the barrel runs under citrus and a floral lift. It is refined and deep, the fruit and oak well matched. The finish runs honeyed, spiced and soft. This is an elegant Highland malt of real depth.
