Description
A Royal Brackla single malt, selected and bottled by Signatory Vintage, an 11 year old from 2009, drawn from cask 307030 + 307033 and bottled at 43%. Royal Brackla was founded in 1812 on the Cawdor Estate of Macbeth fame; the King's Own Whisky earned its royal warrant in 1833. It is one of only three distilleries to carry the Royal name in Scotch.
It was distilled twice on soft Cawdor Burn water, for a clean, floral spirit with a gentle spice. An American oak cask shaped it, flattering the elegant, fruity make. Younger here, it keeps a crisp, fragrant freshness over light honey. The cool Highland climate gives a slow, even maturation over many years. Royal Brackla was the first Scotch whisky ever to be granted a royal warrant. The distillery sits on the Cawdor Estate, whose castle is tied to the legend of Macbeth. Captain William Fraser, an army man returned from India, built the distillery in 1812.
At 43% it is clean and refined. A gentle vanilla and coconut from the wood, with orchard fruit and a gentle spice. The mouthfeel is round, the fruit carried on a honeyed body. Dried fruit and oak spice see out a long finish. This is a polished, fruity Highland whisky.
