A nine year old Guadeloupe vieux from ReimonenQ, fresh cane juice long-aged in ex-bourbon to a woody, nutty profile of hazelnut, ripe banana and candied fruit, soft and gourmand at an easy 40%.
Description
ReimonenQ is a Guadeloupe agricole distillery, and this Cuvee Prestige is one of its older bottlings, a nine year old made from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice rather than molasses. Guadeloupe agricole sits under the island IGP rather than the Martinique AOC, but the cane-juice method is the same.
Distilled through a column still in the house style and matured in ex-bourbon oak, the long ageing gives a woody nose with hazelnut and ripe fruit, a soft, gourmand palate of oak, banana and candied fruit, and a woody finish. At 40% it is gentle and rounded rather than intense, the wood well judged so it never dominates, and there is no claimed added sugar. This is an easy, dessert-leaning aged agricole that drinks well neat after a meal, where its nutty, fruity warmth is the draw.
