Description
An Isle of Raasay distillery bottling from the Na Sia Single Cask Series, a 5 year old release, distilled in 2019, from cask 19/266 and bottled at 61.9%. Raasay is a young Hebridean distillery, the first ever to legally distil on the Isle of Raasay. Every drop is distilled, matured and bottled on the island, using water from a Celtic Iron Age well.
Distilled in Italian built copper stills, a lantern wash still and a swan neck spirit still, the make carried a blackberry fruit from its long fermentation. Virgin and ex-Bourbon American oak drove a bold vanilla and spice here. Past four years the spirit gains weight while keeping its bright fruit. The cool, damp island air gives a gentle maturation close to the sea. Every bottle is natural in colour and free of chill filtration. The Na Sia single casks let drinkers taste each thread of the six cask recipe. A population of around 160 makes Raasay one of Scotland's smallest distilling islands.
At a hearty 61.9% it carries real punch. The cask lends vanilla, baking spice and a honeyed sweetness. A dark berry fruit and a baking spice give it real lift. The finish runs sweet, spiced and lively. This is a bold young malt from Scotland's newest island distillery.
