Description
An Isle of Raasay distillery bottling, a Makar's Malt bottling matured to 3 year old, distilled in 2018, from cask 2018/3 and bottled at 53.2%. A release of 327 bottles. Built by R&B Distillers, Raasay was the first legal distillery on the Isle of Raasay when it opened in 2017. The house makes both peated and unpeated spirit, married across six signature casks.
The spirit was made in the distillery's pot stills, fed by the Celtic well, after a long fermentation of up to five days that builds a sweet blackberry fruit. A wine cask shaped it, dark fruit threading through the spirit. Young and vibrant, the spirit's berry fruit sits forward over the cask spice. Maturation on the island, beside the sea, lends a clean coastal freshness. Long five day fermentations coax a sweet blackberry note from the wash. The Italian built stills give the new make its clean, fruity backbone.
At a hearty 53.2% it carries real punch. The wine cask adds blackberry, plum and a red berry lift. A dark berry fruit and a baking spice give it real lift. Dark fruit and spice see out a long finish. This is a bold young malt from Scotland's newest island distillery.
