A sixteen year Foursquare from Precious Liquors, The Broken Trident is a cask strength Bajan single cask at 63.3%, dry and woody with caramel, dark chocolate, coconut, vanilla and roasted nuts.
Description
Precious Liquors selected this single cask of Foursquare for its Broken Trident release, distilled in 2006 and aged sixteen years at cask strength. It is the St Philip distillery's classic pot-and-column blend, matured in ex-bourbon oak with no added sugar, turning the dial up from the distillery's own releases toward more power and roasted wood.
At 63.3% it is a dry, woody Barbados rum with roasted notes, caramel and coconut on the nose, then fruity dark chocolate, vanilla and oak on the palate, closing with leather, wood, dried fruit and caramel. The strength needs time to settle, after which dried fruit, nuts, cocoa and faint medicinal notes emerge. Compared with lower proof Foursquare of similar age it is markedly more powerful and pushes sugar, caramel and vanilla harder. A rewarding pour for those comfortable taming cask strength and drawn to drier ECS-style Foursquare with extra muscle.
