Precious Liquors Clarendon Jamaican Rum 1995

Bottled by Precious Liquors, this is a single cask Clarendon distilled in 1995 and held 26 years, the workhorse Jamaican distillery in full pot still mode. Clarendon runs both pot and column, but releases like this come off the heavy pot side, and a quarter century of age turns the loud markers into something deep and almost balsamic.

Distilled from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon casks, it carries glue and ester on the nose alongside tropical fruit and a refreshing menthol lift, then moves through mango, woody spice and a vegetal edge before a long, dry, roasted finish flecked with caramel. Bottled at cask strength and certified unsweetened, it shows the oak polish and herbal coolness that decades of tropical maturation bring to an old Clarendon, a slow sipper for drinkers who already know the MM95 style.
