Distillerie Poisson bottles this Cuvee Speciale under the Pere Labat name on Marie-Galante, a house well regarded for its small-batch cane juice rum. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice and bottled at 42%, it shows the island's agricole in a savoury, lightly aged register.

Distilled on column in the house style, it noses on wood, vegetal notes, young wood and nuts, with a palate of spice, vegetal cane, sugarcane and gentle fruit, and a finish of spice, mocha and pepper over a grassy base. The profile leans dry and earthy rather than sweet, with the nutty, mocha edge giving it a quiet depth. The modest strength keeps it easy to drink while the cane character stays clearly in view.
