Description
This 35 year old is an independent bottling from Decadent Drinks, released in their Whiskyland series as Chapter Thirty, a 1990 vintage matured in Oloroso sherry and bottled in 2026 at 44.3% in just 145 bottles. At thirty five years it is among the oldest Pittyvaichs ever to reach the market, from a distillery closed since 1993 whose every cask grows scarcer with each passing year.
Maturation in an Oloroso sherry cask shapes the whisky throughout rather than just finishing it. Oloroso ages in open contact with air, building a dark, nutty depth, and across thirty five years the spirit has moved into an ethereal old age where the angel's share has concentrated the liquid and eased the strength toward the low forties without the tannins ever turning bitter.
At 44.3% it is soft and profound. The melanoidins of the Oloroso give fig, raisin and a walnut depth, lignin lends a faded vanilla, and great age brings old wood, beeswax and a gentle dried fruit sweetness. The finish is long and elegant, a light Speyside make grown rich, fragile and rare across three and a half decades in sherry wood.
