Oliver & Oliver Atlantico Reserva

Atlantico Reserva is a Dominican ron from the blending house Oliver & Oliver, and it stands a little apart in this set for being built from sugar cane honey rather than molasses. Distilled on a column still and bottled at a soft 40%, it sits firmly in the gentle, smooth Dominican mould.

The cane honey base lends a rounded sweetness. The nose offers vanilla, dark chocolate and a fresh lift, the palate stays sweet and vanilla led with a spicy edge, and the finish turns smooth and lightly floral with a faint geranium note. There is green banana fruitiness in the background and an overall very mild, easy character. Sugar status is not declared and it reads soft and sweet rather than dry. A smooth, approachable Dominican for relaxed sipping, gentle enough to suit newcomers to the style and undemanding by design.
