An unaged, unsweetened pot still white from Okinawa built on overripe tropical fruit, banana, fresh grass and a saline mineral streak, an offbeat and funky white rum for sipping neat or shaking into a mixer at an easy 40%.
Description
Okinawa Tokyo Nights is a Japanese molasses rum distilled on a pot still and bottled clear and unaged at 40%, the kind of oddball white that sits closer to a funky agricole or a tiny distillery experiment than to anything smooth and commercial. It is unsweetened and openly quirky, made for drinkers who chase character over polish.
Wild and a little untamed on the nose, it shows musty overripe fruit, banana and a rubbery fermentation note alongside fresh sugarcane and minerals. The palate keeps that fresh, vegetal fruitiness, pineapple and light grass over a saline mineral base, before a warm, faintly bitter and smoky finish. Pot distillation and the lack of cask time leave everything raw and expressive, so it shines as a curiosity poured neat by the adventurous, or shaken into a Mai Tai where its salty fruity edge cuts through.
