Nobilis Uitvlugt (Port Mourant) No. 9 (Versus Wine) PM 1990

A single cask Uitvlugt carrying a Port Mourant marque, bottled by Nobilis Rum from the heritage stock at Diamond. The labelling points to the oily, liquorice-driven PM recipe distilled at the Uitvlugt site, and the cabinet leans on the reliable character rather than over-asserting the contested code: this is dry, woody, old-school Demerara at three decades of age.

Maturated from molasses and finished in port wood at 50.5%, it noses on oak, liquorice, apple and a faintly medicinal edge, then turns oily and roasted on the palate with more liquorice and wood, the finish bringing vanilla, raisin and leather. Unsweetened and bottled at cask strength, it favours structure over fruit, the long maturation pushing the oak and licorice-tobacco profile to the fore. A contemplative sipper for drinkers who like their Port Mourant lean, oily and wood-forward.
