A cask-strength Martinique agricole from Neisson, matured in bourbon and cognac casks that balance fresh sugarcane against roasted nuts, citrus, dark chocolate and refined oak, expressive yet smooth and ideal for slow sipping at 50.8%.
Description
Neisson L'Empyreumatique is a cask-strength release from the small Neisson family distillery in Martinique, a much-admired house founded in 1931. Made from fresh sugarcane juice and matured in a mix of bourbon and cognac casks, it is bottled at full proof and built to show Neisson's house style with a rounder, woodier edge than the brand's leaner full-proof bottlings.
Distilled on a column still in the agricole tradition, it keeps a clear cane core while the cognac influence adds depth. Fresh sugarcane and citrus meet roasted nuts, dark chocolate and refined oak across nose and palate, with citrus, spice and chocolate carrying a long finish. At 50.8% it is expressive yet smooth, the strength well judged rather than fierce. This is an unsweetened agricole for slow sipping and for drinkers who already enjoy Neisson's full-proof range and want to compare a softer, oak-led take against the distillery's brighter expressions.
