A single cask fifteen year Martinique agricole from Neisson, distilled from cane juice and aged in ex-bourbon, polished and complex with wood, nuts, dark chocolate and tobacco over a clean cane core, unsweetened at 49.1%.
Description
Neisson 15 ans 2005 is a long-aged single cask from Neisson, the small, much-admired family distillery in Martinique, made from fresh sugar-cane juice under the AOC. Fifteen years in oak make this a notably mature agricole, bottled unsweetened at cask strength, the kind of single cask aimed at experienced palates.
Tropical ageing in ex-bourbon oak drives steady extraction, here showing as a nose of tobacco, vanilla and wood with a faint glue lift that blows off with air. The palate is woody and spicy with dark chocolate, nutmeg and the macaroon-and-almond note typical of Neisson, leading into a roasted, spicy, chocolate-laced finish. Beneath the wood the clean, unsweetened cane core stays intact. At 49.1% it is intense yet refined, a complex aged Martinique agricole that rewards time in the glass and slow, attentive sipping.
