A punchy 7 Year Old Mount Gay blend bottled for The Whisky Exchange at 54%, pot-and-column Barbados rum showing creme brulee, vanilla, raisin and dry oak spice, unsweetened and firmer than the standard range.
Description
Mount Gay is the heritage name of Barbados, marketed as the world's oldest commercial rum distillery from a deed dated 1703, working pot and column stills in St Lucy. This Select Blend of Matured Rums was bottled for The Whisky Exchange, a seven year old married blend offered unsweetened at a firmer 54%.
The pot-and-column character gives the rounded, fruity Bajan profile with vanilla, creme brulee and toasted notes on the nose, then raisin, dried fruit and warm oak across the palate. The finish turns spicy and dry with a touch of salinity. At this strength it drinks with more grip and seriousness than the everyday range, while keeping the smooth, banana-and-vanilla DNA of the island. A characterful sipper for those who enjoy Barbados rum with a bit more punch and a dry, unsweetened edge.
