The Peat Smoke Expression sits in Mount Gay's Master Blender Collection, an XO base from the heritage Barbados distillery given a whisky-cask finish. Mount Gay markets itself as the world's oldest commercial rum distillery, its deed dated to 1703, and this release bridges its classic profile with Islay-style smoke, aimed at drinkers who enjoy both worlds and want real intensity.

Distilled from molasses on pot and column stills and finished in whisky casks, it keeps the no-additives integrity the house stands behind. The aroma carries smoke, caramel, citrus and vanilla, the palate brings caramel and burnt sugar wrapped in peat and salt, and the finish turns smoky and savoury with treacle, a bacon-like note and tobacco. Underneath the smoke sits the recognisable Bajan core of vanilla, dried fruit and caramel, the peat balanced rather than overwhelming. A few drops of water tame the edge, a bold and original crossover that holds its 57% with a long, smoky close.
