Mombacho XO

Mombacho XO is a single cask twenty year old Nicaraguan ron, sitting at the older, more serious end of the distillery's range. Nicaragua leans toward cleaner, drier rum than the sweeter Spanish styles, and this long-aged single cask shows that restraint while delivering real depth from the wood.

Column distilled from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon at 43%, it opens with honey, oak, dried fruit and a nutty edge, then turns sweet, dry and well balanced on the palate with licorice, honey and caramel, the oak obvious but not overbearing. The finish runs long, warm and dry. This is a relatively dry, classic hispanic profile, balanced and not cloying, with the age showing as integration rather than heat. A composed older Nicaraguan single cask for drinkers who value balance and a drier, oak-driven character.
