Earthy and concentrated, this Mana’o Rangiroa blanc from French Polynesia drives deep into vegetal cane, mineral and a truffled, rooty edge over fresh citrus, an organic Tahitian cane-juice rhum bottled at a punchy 48.5%.
Description
Mana'o makes organic cane-juice rum on Tahiti, and this Rangiroa blanc is a rare expression of agricole-style distilling from French Polynesia. Distilled from fresh-pressed sugar-cane juice rather than molasses, it sits outside the French AOC but follows the same low-rectification logic that keeps cane character intact.
The column runs the spirit off low to preserve the congeners, and the result is unusually intense and concentrated: fresh sugar-cane sap, cut grass and a marked mineral, earthy streak that some find tips into mushroom and truffle. There is a marine, briny lift and a touch of gourmand sweetness, with citrus playing a quieter role than in many Caribbean blancs. At 48.5% it is best neat or in a Ti' Punch, a singular, terroir-driven white for drinkers who like their cane rums green and rooty.
