Malteco Viejo Dorado

Malteco Viejo Dorado is a young Panamanian rum from Bodegas de America, distinctive for being made from fresh sugar cane juice rather than the molasses base typical of Spanish-style ron. Aged around a year in ex-bourbon wood and bottled at 40%, it is a lightly aged, golden expression.

The cane-juice base gives this a grassier, more vegetal backbone than molasses ron, while the short time in ex-bourbon wood adds a light golden colour and gentle vanilla edge. With only a year of ageing this stays fresh and approachable, more an easy mixing and sipping rum than a deeply aged one. A lighter, cane-forward entry in the Malteco range.
