A five-year Panamanian cane-juice rum under the Malteco Reserva Amable label at 40%, a soft, light sipper of dried fruit, caramel and citrus that stays thin and gently sweet through a fruity finish.
Description
Malteco's five-year Reserva Amable comes from Bodegas de America in Panama and, unusually for the brand, is made from fresh sugar-cane juice rather than molasses. It sits at the soft, light, approachable end of the Spanish style, a young and gentle rum built for undemanding sipping rather than depth.
The make is column-distilled cane-juice spirit matured in ex-bourbon wood, bottled at a mild 40%. The nose offers dried fruit, wood, a little alcohol and citrus, the palate is fruity with sugar, wood and caramel, and the finish stays fruity but runs thin and light. The overall impression is soft and lightly sweet, easy to drink but on the slender side. Honestly framed, this is a gentle, fruit-led young Panama that suits casual moments and mixing, pleasant enough while making no claim to weight or depth.
