A Martinique blanc from La Mauny partly rested in acacia wood, dry and earthy with honey, lime, fresh cane and a light wood touch, fresh-juice distilled and bottled at a lively 50%.
Description
La Mauny is a heritage Martinique house at Riviere-Pilote, going back to 1749 and one of the island's largest, and this Acacia bottling takes its white agricole and rests part of the juice in acacia wood rather than the usual oak. Pressed from fresh sugar-cane juice, it stays close to a blanc in spirit while picking up a faint wood touch.
Distilled low on a column still to keep the green congeners intact, it leans floral and fresh: lime, fresh cane and a floral lift on the nose, then floral, fruity citrus across the palate, finishing on citrus, fruit and sugar-cane. The acacia adds a dry, earthy edge and a note of honey without turning it into an aged rum. At 50% it has the snap and power for a fine Ti' Punch and mixes well, an interesting, lightly wood-touched twist on the white agricole for those who like a drier blanc.
