A single-cask Guadeloupe agricole from Longueteau, distilled on a creole column from fresh cane juice, its barrel-aged frame carrying nutmeg, allspice and vanilla over dried fruit, with a mocha and fruity finish at a firm 49.9 percent.
Description
Longueteau, the oldest family-owned agricole distillery still running in Guadeloupe, builds this Symphonie on its creole column still, distilling fresh-pressed sugar cane juice low to keep the green, vegetal cane congeners in the spirit. Guadeloupe sits under the looser IGP rather than the Martinique AOC, but the house works firmly in the agricole tradition.
This is an oak-aged expression rather than a fresh blanc, and the wood shows: the nose runs woody and warm with allspice, vanilla and nutmeg, while the palate brings dried fruit, baking spice and more nutmeg over a grassy core. The finish leans on dried fruit, barrel char, mocha and a fruity lift. Drawn from a single cask and bottled unsweetened at 49.9 percent, it sits drier and more spice-forward than a sweet molasses rum, rewarding slow sipping or a stirred serve that lets the oak and cane play off each other.
