A seventeen year old single cask from El Salvador’s Cihuatán, column-distilled and aged in ex-bourbon oak at cask strength 53.3%, sweet and oak-rich with coconut, caramel and vanilla giving way to a leathery, barrel-driven finish.
Description
Licorera Cihuatán Folklore Dualidad (France) is a single cask distillery release from Licorera Cihuatán in El Salvador, part of the Folklore line and bottled for the French market. Seventeen years old, column-distilled and presented at cask strength, it shows the distillery putting one of its long-aged barrels forward undiluted, a chance to meet this Central American producer at full power and single-barrel depth.
Maturation in ex-bourbon oak over seventeen years has built a rich, wood-forward profile. The nose offers coconut, caramel, vanilla and spice, while the palate turns sweet and oak-driven with caramel, barrel and a woody grip, and the finish runs to leather, caramel and barrel. At 53.3% the strength carries that sweetness with weight rather than fierceness. This is an oak-and-vanilla expression of Cihuatán, a single cask poured to show the distillery's character at length and proof.
