Labourdonnais is a Mauritian estate working from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice, and this Star and Key VSOP is a single-cask release bottled at 43%. As a Mauritian rum it sits outside the Martinique AOC, so it is best described as agricole-style rather than a protected agricole.
The single-cask format means one barrel rather than a blend, giving an individual expression of the estate's aged cane-juice spirit. Expect a grassy, lightly oaked character with vanilla and soft spice, carrying a touch of sweetness that nudges it gentler than a bone-dry French-island vieux.
