Description
La Escondida Artesanal Blanco is a joven Espadin mezcal from Santiago Matatlan in Oaxaca, one of the most important towns for mezcal production today. It is a 100% agave spirit built only from Espadin, cooked and then double distilled, and the artesanal label is taken seriously here, with nothing about it made by machine. The result is a soft, balanced mezcal in the classic valley mould.
Traditional roasting gives the nose its earthy, finely smoky character, the smoke coming from pit roasting rather than any peat. On the palate, impressions of leather and minerals add a deeper, more intense tone, while the body stays smooth and even. Bottled at 40%, it is an approachable, honest artesanal Espadin that leans on earth and gentle smoke rather than high proof to make its case.
