A dry, powerful old Martinique agricole at cask strength, packed with red and dried fruit, tobacco, dark chocolate and assertive oak from long tropical ageing, cane-juice distilled and unsweetened at an intense 59%.
Description
This is a Saint James agricole bottled by La Confrerie du Rhum, a 2003 cask-strength single from Martinique aged nearly fifteen years before bottling at 59% with no added sugar. Saint James is one of the island's oldest and largest agricole houses, and this brut de fut release shows the serious, oak-driven side of cane-juice rum.
Distilled from fresh cane juice on a creole column and matured in ex-bourbon oak, the long tropical ageing has pushed the bright agricole core into deeper territory, red and dried fruit, tobacco, leather and dark chocolate over assertive, slightly bitter oak. With nothing added it stays dry and authentic, the high strength carrying real intensity and a long, spicy, woody finish. This is agricole for experienced palates who want power and complexity rather than freshness, a contemplative neat pour that rewards time in the glass.
