A Panamanian rum from Varela Hermanos given a cigar-themed cask finish, heavy on tobacco, cigar leaf and hazelnut with nougat and vanilla underneath and a wisp of smoke on the nose, soft yet savoury and aimed squarely at cigar lovers at 42%.
Description
Kuna's Davidoff of Geneva Cigar Cask Finish is built on Panamanian rum from Varela Hermanos, the Destileria Don Jose operation that supplies much of the country's rum, and finished to play up a tobacco and cigar theme. The result leans into a savoury, leafy character that sets it apart from the usual soft vanilla Panama profile.
The nose is led by hazelnut, cigar and tobacco with a wisp of smoke, the palate carries cigar leaf, tobacco, nougat and vanilla, and the finish runs tobacco, coffee and pepper. The smoke that dominates the aroma fades on the palate, leaving the cask and a balanced, mellow body. Column distilled and soft at 42%, it is an easy, contemplative pour aimed squarely at cigar lovers, more about the tobacco-and-nut character than any rough edge or high-proof intensity.
