Woody and chocolatey, this 15 Year Old Isautier Louis & Charles from Reunion blends agricole and molasse rum into cacao, prunes, vanilla and pepper, a cask-strength bottling at a bold 58% with an elegant, slightly bitter finish.
Description
Isautier is one of Reunion's oldest distilling families, and this Louis & Charles release from the 2004 vintage is a fifteen-year bottling that marries the island's two traditions, blending agricole cane-juice rum with molasse rum. The result sits apart from a pure cane-juice agricole, an Indian Ocean style that plays to Reunion's strengths.
Maturation in ex-bourbon wood, bottled at cask strength of 58%, gives a deep, oak-driven profile: cacao and milk chocolate, dark prunes and dried fruit, vanilla and a peppery warmth, finishing toasted and faintly bitter. The strength carries real punch while staying composed, the spirit woody and grounded with notable length. Elegant and structured, this is a bold aged Reunion rum for experienced palates that favour dry, oak-and-cacao depth over sweetness.
