Isautier Arrangé Banane Flambée

Isautier is a long established Reunion distillery, and this Banane Flambee is a rhum arrange, a molasses based rum steeped with banana and sweetened into a frankly dessert like drink, bottled at 40%. It makes no pretence at being a dry sipper, and copy should not pretend otherwise.

The character is all natural banana, honey and vanilla, the texture thick and the sweetness pronounced, with maple and round banana carrying through the finish. It is at its best poured ice cold, where the chill reins in the sugar and lets the banana shine, served as a sweet treat or an after dinner digestif. Taken neat at room temperature it can read as very sweet indeed. This is a fun, flavoured sidekick and a more rum forward alternative to a simple banana liqueur, rather than a contemplative aged pour.
