Industria Licorera de Caldas Ron de Caldas Especial 15 Anos is a 15 Year Old Colombian ron from the state producer Industria Licorera de Caldas. Made from sugar cane honey, column distilled and matured in ex-bourbon oak at 40%, it sits in the soft, easygoing Colombian tradition alongside the coffee and cocoa leaning house style of the region.

The standout here is a clear cherry character: cherry wood, cherry, a sweet edge and leather on the nose, then leather, sweetness, fruit and cherry on the palate, closing on leather, a nutty note and dark chocolate. It is lightly sweet rather than heavily dosed, with soft oak, gentle fruit and a grassy, candied lift in places, and drinkers regard it as a simple, pleasant pour around the thirty euro mark. Some find the palate a touch alcoholic and plain next to the inviting nose, but as an affordable, approachable Colombian for casual neat sipping or mixing it does its job.
